Biography: David Jones
August 2017 marks Mr. Jones 23rd year in education, most recently serving the last six years as the Superintendent and Principal of the Vallecitos School District. Mr. Jones was previously an elementary school principal for seven years at Carmel Del Mar School in the Del Mar Union School District, an assistant principal for three years at Lampson Elementary School in the Orange Unified School District, and taught grades 3, 5, and 6 in the Bloomington School District in Minnesota.
Mr. Jones received the San Diego County Superintendent of the Year award for small school districts, and the North Coastal Consortium for Special Education Administrator of the Year award. Mr. Jones was selected to present on leadership and improving student achievement for the Bill Gates Foundation, and he and his staff were honored with the Title I Academic Achievement Award from the California Department of Education. The Professional Learning Community and Response to Intervention Models serve as the foundation of Mr. Jones’ leadership beliefs and collaborative approach with his staff. Implementation of the PLC and RTI models and gains in student achievement led the Vallecitos School District to receive a Model PLC School District award from Solution Tree. Mr. Jones now serves as a presenter for Solution Tree, assisting school leaders and teachers with implementation of the Professional Learning Community Model.
Mr. Jones holds a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of North Dakota, a Masters in Education from Hamline University, and a Masters in Educational Administration from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota.
